What is One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB/MGB)?
The one-anastomosis (mini) gastric bypass creates a small stomach pouch connected to the small intestine, bypassing a segment to limit both food intake and calorie absorption.
Who are suitable candidates?
BMI ≥ 35, regardless of associated health problems.
Failed non-surgical weight-loss efforts.
Fully informed and motivated adults (18–65 years; individualized exceptions).
ADVANTAGES
Significant weight loss: Typically 25–35% TWL.
Improvement or remission of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and cardiovascular risk.
In the YOMEGA study, OAGB achieved superior long-term diabetes control compared with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (60% vs 38%).
Simpler technique: Only one intestinal connection, shorter operative time.
