Interdisciplinary & Surgical Approach to Recurrent Weight Gain

What is it?

Revision and conversion surgery addresses recurrent weight gain, suboptimal weight loss, or long-term deficiencies. These procedures are technically demanding and require an experienced team and comprehensive evaluation.

Typical patient profiles

  • Patients with gastric bands causing discomfort or complications (erosion, slippage, etc.).
  • Recurrent weight gain or suboptimal weight loss after previous sleeve or band.
  • Severe reflux following sleeve gastrectomy.

Treatment considerations

  • After gastric band: Slippage, erosion, or reflux often necessitate removal; isolated removal usually leads to recurrent weight gain.
  • After sleeve:
    • Recurrent weight gain: May benefit from re-sleeve or conversion to SADI-S.
    • Reflux: Conversion to gastric bypass relieves symptoms and may enhance further loss.

Our approach

Not every patient benefits from another operation. We provide an evidence-based opinion and, when surgery is indicated, apply 25 years of experience in complex reoperations. Each case is evaluated individually and collaboratively.
